The Heartwood School for the Homebuilding Crafts
2017 Course Registration

Below we present information about tuition and accommodations and a registration form for you to send along with your check.

  • Tuition fees for our one-week workshops are $800 per person or $1,500 per couple; the tuition for two-week courses is $1,550 per person or $2,900 per couple; the tuition for three-day courses is $480 per person or $885 per couple; the tuition for two-day courses is $350 per person or $650 per couple, except for Concrete Countertops, the tuition for which is $425 per person, $800 per couple. Additional materials fees (if any as shown in the course description) are included in the fees below, unless they are optional, in which case we will contact you after receiving your deposit to determine your balance.
  • We prefer payment by check or money order, payable to Heartwood School, accompanied by a registration form. Alternately you may register and pay your course deposit by credit card through PayPal by clicking the order button on each course's webpage. We will then invoice you for the balance. A $200 deposit per person is required for the two-week course, a $100 deposit per person for all other workshops. A statement with balance due and other information will be sent to you upon receipt of your registration. The balance is due two weeks prior to the beginning of class. If we don't receive final payment by then, we will offer your place to someone on the waiting list.
  • All course deposits are refundable minus $50 up until four weeks prior to the class, after which it may be put toward another class during the same calendar year if you cancel.
  • The couples rate applies to two people using the same registration form and taking the same course. Invite family, friends, or colleagues to join you for a Heartwood course.
  • COURSE DISCOUNTS: Students taking more than one course in the same calendar year may deduct $50 per person from the tuition fee for the second course, and $100 per person from the tuition fee for the third and subsequent courses.
  • FINANCIAL AID: There are a number of organizations that offer scholarships and have funded Heartwood students in the past: The Northeastern Woodworkers Association Fiske Fund offers up to $1000 each year; preference is given to residents of the Northeastern US region. The Timber Framers Guild offers scholarships to Guild members to attend timber framing courses and Guild events (conferences, workshops). The Berkshire Woodworkers Guild gives preference to applicants from Berkshire (MA) County and the surrounding region, but anyone may apply. The Dumond Scholarship for the Arts was established to support students who are majoring in disciplines within the arts, including woodworking. The Allen Booth Craftsman Scholarship awards $500 for vocational education and our courses qualify. Application deadline July 31st.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund (WTF) approves certain Heartwood courses for their Express Grants funding for MA employees of eligible companies. For more information, visit the Express Grants website here and search the "Training Directory" for our courses.

  • Local accommodations and meals (with the exception of weekday lunches) are arranged by students individually. There are several hotels, campgrounds and bed-and-breakfast houses nearby that offer special weekly rates for those attending Heartwood. Upon receipt of your registration, we will send you a list of housing options with prices and reservation information. You may also download a pdf list by clicking the "Where to Stay" icon at left.

For any questions regarding Heartwood programs, please call our office at 413-623-6677 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
