This course is an intensive and comprehensive introduction to woodworking tools, materials and techniques. It is ideal for those who want to build their own collection of hand and power tools and want to know how to evaluate their needs and what to buy.
Each day students will work on a different individual project of their choice, learning the nature of various woods, how to select proper joinery for the job at hand and how to maintain and use tools properly. To learn how to set up and maintain the ideal home workshop, students will become familiar with jigs and measuring devices, chisels and planes, routers and jointers, table saws and band saws, radial arm saws, plate joinery, sanders drill press techniques and much more.
Enrollment is limited to six people.
"Your unfailing courtesy and good cheer made the week all that much more enjoyable. In addition to learning a great deal, I took away a lot of very nice memories. Kirk is very knowledgeable about his trade, but also exceptional in other ways. He was as patient as each situation required, and his easy-going manner and wit made it a tremendous amount of fun to be at the course. He has a gift for teaching and was very sensitive to safety issues."
"Kirk is an outstanding teacher, skillfully using direct instruction, demonstration, personal anecdotes and gentle humor to keep students fully engaged. I learned to use many tools confidently and safely, including some I found scary and intimidating at first."
"We covered many areas and techniques I didn't expect. Kirk shared his craft with patience and passion that made me inspired to learn more. Excellent teaching and great food!"
