Ariel Schecter

Ariel grew up in the Hudson River Valley, gaining early expertise in the trade by working tirelessly on Lincoln Log, Knex, and Lego sets. After studying structural engineering at Brown University, he meandered through a series of timber framing and fine carpentry jobs that ultimately led him to central Vermont, where he has lived and practiced timber framing for over a decade.

In 2024, Ariel started his own company called Woodpecker LLC, focused on timber frame design, stereotomy, scribing, and teaching workshops. A fellow of the Professional School of Practical Stereotomy, he particularly enjoys working with physical techniques like scribing and stereotomy - and getting away from crunching numbers (even though he likes those, too). Ariel is always eager to continue learning, teaching, and connecting with others who share a love of the trade. You can find him on instagram @fancystix.
