At Heartwood we believe that the building arts are for everyone

Part of the mission of the Heartwood School is to provide accessible education in the craft of timber framing and in the building arts, and we are committed to addressing barriers to entry. We strive to make our courses accessible by offering a number of scholarships every year on an objective and non-discriminatory basis. Scholarship funds are intended to help reduce financial obstacles by providing partial tuition assistance for enrolled courses at the Heartwood School. Please note: the funds provided in this scholarship will be applied directly to the cost of tuition. If tuition has been paid previously, a reimbursement in the amount awarded will be issued.

We award a number of partial scholarships every year, as well as one Will Beemer Memorial Scholarship that covers the full tuition of an introductory one-week Timber Framing course. Scholarships do not apply to our apprenticeship program.

All are welcome to apply. Eligibility is determined by a demonstration of interest and commitment to learning the craft of timber framing and other building arts, interest in community service in addition to financial need.

Our scholarship applications are currently open. Please apply by February 28th, 2025 in order to have your application considered.

* Scholarship recipients may be asked to write a short synopsis of their time at Heartwood to be used in future Heartwood scholarship promotion materials. This is optional and willingness to participate will not affect scholarship eligibility or determination. Applicants will be notified by phone or email.
